That’s what some people like to do with their spare time. Apparently to protect their children. I don’t really feel like wasting too many words on this story. Events in our lives do not always turn out happily. Kids can learn about hardship & difficult emotions and grapple with them as they arise in books. If your daughter did not like book 1 of the 13 Lemony Snicket books, then don’t bother reading the other 12. Or talk to her about it. Let her engage with her emotions. You don’t have to burn them.
Edit: Just looked at the Happy Endings Foundation’s website. I wonder if it might be a prank? Bit of a Banned Books week joke.
Edit Edit: Looked some more at the website, including the activist Gerbil webcam where a couple of noble rodents devour sad books. Must be for real
Edit edit edit: Maybe more of a marketing ploy than a pure joke?
